Welcome to NCHRD
The Nyange Center for Health Research and Development (NCHRD) was established in early 2022 by a multidisciplinary team of specialists in public health, biological sciences, medicine, biostatistics, and social sciences. Recognizing Uganda's significant burden of vector-borne diseases (VBDs), neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), and selected infectious diseases (IDs) and many exacerbated by human behavior—the founders identified critical gaps in research and interventions for their prevention, control, and elimination. Nyange Center adopts a one-health approach to develop and implement interventions targeting these diseases in Uganda and the broader Eastern African region.
Climate change has exacerbated the endemicity and spread of these diseases by expanding the areas affected and increasing the incidence rates. In some cases where vector-borne diseases and their vectors have been eliminated, the environment has been degraded and made prone to other poverty-related diseases, increased severe weather events, and natural disasters.
NCHRD operates as an independent, non-political, non-partisan, non-denominational, and non-profit organization. It is registered according to the laws of Uganda and guided by relevant statutory and legal instruments. It collaborates with the Ministry of Health’s Vector-Borne and Neglected Tropical Diseases Division.
